THE SCULPTOR OF ALL ELYSIUM

Dazed
cold sweat in the morning
pouring inches outside for the weatherman

Lids pried open:
shutters on the coffee shop windows,
body climbing out of sleep
up daylight’s ladder

After a fashion,
this mind
woke too

While I slept I had
built the acropolis up again
from ruin,
in honour of Victorious Athena

I told you this
and you kissed my hands.
